IndiGo From India, Ordered 500 Units Airbus A320 Family
India's largest airline, IndiGo. Has placed a firm order with Airbus for 500 units of the A320 Family.
This order sets a record for the largest single purchase agreement in the history of commercial aviation.
Airbus said on the opening day of the 2023 Paris Air Show in Paris, France. Monday.
This agreement adds to IndiGo's total Airbus aircraft orders to 1,330 units, solidifying IndiGo's position as the largest A320 Family customer in the world.
The purchase contract for 500 units of the A320 Family was signed by IndiGo Promoter & Managing Director Rahul Bhatia, IndiGo Chairman and Non-Executive Independent Director Pieter Elbers, IndiGo CEO Dr. Venkataramani Sumantran, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, and Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International Christian Scherer.
IndiGo headquartered in New Delhi is one of the fastest growing operators in the world.
Since its first A320neo aircraft was delivered in March 2016, its A320neo Family fleet has grown to become one of the largest in the world with 264 aircraft in service, consisting of 162 A320neo, 79 A321neo, 21 A320ceo and 2 A321 transport aircraft.
IndiGo placed its first order with Airbus in 2005 for 100 A320 Family.
Then in 2011, ordered 180 A320 Family including neo.
In 2014, IndiGo ordered another 250 A320neo Family.
Then in 2019, another 300 A320neo Family was ordered, bringing the previous order total to 830 A320 Family aircraft.
